Welcome to Enterprise Fortnight 2018

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are delighted to present a packed programme of opportunities as part of Enterprise Fortnight 2018. The activities range from larger-scale events to intimate networking gatherings and drop-in clinics.  As a participant, you will have the opportunity to be connected to other participants, potential collaborators, mentors and even investors, hearing real case studies and being inspired by motivational speakers.

We hope you will find something of interest to ignite that entrepreneurial spark or to encourage you to grow your business further and be a part of the Borough’s prosperous future.


Monday 12th November

Global Enterprise Roadshow | Young Starts

Be inspired by local young people who have started their business.

A Day of Invention

The world of work is changing and young people need to have the right skills for the jobs of the future. Mid & East Antrim Borough Council in partnership with Catalyst Inc. are offering the opportunity for students to attend an informative and energetic day of design thinking.

A Day of Invention is an immersive design-thinking workshop for Year 13 students facilitated by Patricia Flannagan. The students and teachers will break into teams to work towards solving a relevant and communal problem, presenting their solutions at the end of the day. Students will work in teams using design-thinking principals to ideate on their solutions and develop prototypes. The session will spark creativity and curiosity as well as develop problem solving skills and teamwork. The day will also include a presentation around the Generation Innovation Work Experience Programme. Students should attend from any discipline, as the workshop is skills based and will develop 21st Century skills.

Launch of New Tourism Destination Brand

November sees the launch of the new look tourism brand aimed at marketing Mid and East Antrim to international visitors.

Come and hear from the design and branding experts who created it, AV Browne, and see how you can use this identity on your own marketing material to increase your visitor numbers. They will also show how having a digital presence, as well as photography and videography, can maximise your tourism potential. This offers a great opportunity for industry networking.

Event suitable for existing Mid and East Antrim tourism and hospitality businesses and community groups interested in strengthening their tourism offering.

Business Support and Funding Opportunities Lunch

This drop in lunchtime event is for new and established businesses to network and discover funding opportunities and general business support than can be accessed to continue to grow their businesses and the economy as a whole.

Come along and meet representatives from Banks, Invest Northern Ireland, InterTradeIreland and Enterprise agencies alongside Mid and East Antrim Borough Council business initiatives and discover funding and loan opportunities which are available.

The Prince’s Trust Information Session

The Enterprise Programme is for 18-30 year olds who are unemployed or working less than 16 hours per week. Includes:

  • Free 4 day Enterprise Course
  • Test marketing grants of up to £250
  • Potential start-up loan or grant funding (conditions apply)
  • Up to 2 years’ support from a volunteer business mentor

    Led by Mid and East Antrim Manufacturing Task Force and hosted by Northern Regional College at Farm Lodge Campus, Ballymena.

    This event is primarily for students with a specific focus on the Year of Engineering. The event will provide interactive sessions for young people led by Sentinus with Big Bang, Inspire Me and Young Innovators focus. It will provide an opportunity for young people to hear through video showcasing of people working in engineering/ manufacturing.

    Mobile Movie Making Workshop

    Workshop to explore an understanding of movie making for business purposes. Participants will apply professional film making skills to their own business marketing by using smart phones.

    Schools Digital Makers Event

    This is a schools focused event. Digital Makers will give young people an opportunity to engage in hands on coding activities within a business context. Students will be introduced to the concept of developing digital products to meet a business, social or personal need. Using Google App Inventor, Sentinus staff will help students understand the app building process and teach basic coding skills to allow them to develop their own app. Using personal experience or identifying a business need; students will develop a concept and start the development of their own app.

    Young Enterprise NI will deliver two half-day enterprise events focusing on primary school workshops, which will introduce the concept of entrepreneurship using a variety of practical and interactive tools to demonstrate how businesses can collaborate through supply chains to create jobs for the local economy.

    Primary schools in the Council area will be offered the opportunity to participate on a ‘first come first served’ basis.
