Some tips for preparing your pitch
Keep it short: Keep your pitch to 5 minutes in length so you don’t lose people’s attention. Think about the elevator lift concept where you might only have 30 seconds to describe your product/service. A minute to win it!
Remember the 5 Ws: Don’t assume people already know what your campaign is and what you’re all about. Make sure you address the 5 Ws:
- Who – will the money benefit?
- What – will it help your business do?
- Why – do you need this money?
- Where – Location or event the investment will be used at
- When – will you spend the money?
Show, rather than tell: Use concrete examples, like photos, testimonials from others, etc. Don’t just talk at the audience, explain your campaign.
Don’t hide behind the curtain: Conversely, don’t just show us your project. Build a rapport with your audience. Speaking directly at your audience makes your appeal more personal, avoid reading from your notes. Eye contact will win votes.
Make sure we can hear you: Speak up! Don’t make the audience struggle to hear you.
Have a great opening: Make sure to get people’s attention from the very beginning of your pitch.
- Some say that 80% of pitches can be won on your opening line
- A good story can deliver big results
- Finally, say what you are going to say, say it and say it again!!
