Tuesday 19 November 2019 @ Port of Larne, Larne Harbour
A group of Year 10 Pupils from St Killian’s College got an ‘Access All Areas’ tour of the Port of Larne as part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Enterprise Week. ‘Exploring Logistics’ was organised in partnership with P&O Ferries and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport to highlight the transport sector’s strategic importance to the local economy and raise awareness of the many diverse career opportunities available at the harbour and across the wider logistics industry.
In line with the theme of this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week, ‘Removing Barriers and Welcoming All’ the day was highly interactive, including a tour of the harbour site and visits to P&O Ferrymasters and the Freight Booking Office, watching a ferry dock and discharge its cargo and passengers and a Q&A session with industry representatives.
Laura Gilmour, Port Manager at P&O Ferries, Larne emphasised that, “As one of the area’s largest employers, we are committed to educating the next generation about their future career opportunities. We’re proud to have been able to get involved in this important initiative and give local students a glimpse into how our business works”.
